WashU Mass Spectrometry

Mass Spectrometry Technology Access Center

at the McDonnell Genome Institute -

Washington University School of Medicine

The Mass Spectrometry Technology Access Center at the McDonnell Genome Institute MTAC@MGI - Washington University School of Medicine offers cutting-edge proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics, and imaging mass spectrometry technologies to support and educate researchers worldwide in answering current questions in basic, translational, and clinical research.

At MTAC, we are dedicated to delivering top-notch mass spectrometry-based research that is both cost-effective and efficient. We offer a complimentary initial consultation to review each project and provide ongoing support for successful outcomes.

Our services range from simple protein identification to quantification of proteins (relative and absolute) through bottom-up proteomics analyses. We also offer intact, native, and top-down proteomics analyses. Our specialty lies in providing comprehensive global quantitative analysis of post-translational modifications (PTMs) such as phosphorylation, ubiquitination, acetylation, and methylation, as well as epiproteomics histone PTM assays.

In addition, we continuously develop new targeted metabolomics and lipidomics panels, and we fully support spatial proteome and metabolome imaging mass spectrometry. From sample submission to data analysis, we offer comprehensive services with the support of our world-class staff and state-of-the-art mass spectrometry instrumentation.

The MTAC provides advanced mass spectrometry analyses to the Washington University community and beyond.

Our Mission

  • To support university researchers in their proteomics, metabolomics, and lipidomics studies, from initial consultation to publication and grant submission, by providing high-quality services.

  • To offer training and education in mass spectrometry, including its theory, practical experimental procedures, and data analysis.

  • To make cutting-edge instrumentation and expertise in mass spectrometry available to researchers at a cost-effective price.

Submit your samples for a specific task, using our established and validated protocols and services. Our fees are based on a cost-study approved rate, charged per sample.

Partial Funded Staff, Grant Collaborator

Partner with us through partial funding of an MTAC staff member or postdoctoral associate. We'll assign a dedicated mass spectrometry specialist to your project.

Full Funded Staff, Grant Co-Investigator

Join forces on a research grant and work towards a specific aim. This option is best for large commitments that require the development of new applications or the adaptation of cutting-edge technology.
